First Piedmont Corporation’s 125-acre industrial landfill site, located just east of Danville, Virginia, has been in operation since 1972 under site permit # 65 issued by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. We accept non-hazardous industrial waste including asbestos and various types of “special waste”. Special waste is subject to approval by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. We do not accept sanitary waste in our landfill. However, we operate a transfer station at our landfill that accepts sanitary waste. Waste from this transfer station is then disposed into an approved outside sanitary waste landfill. A groundwater monitoring system was voluntarily implemented in 1978. The landfill has a synthetic liner and a leachate collection system. Twenty-four hour security is provided. At First Piedmont we know that the reduction of long-term liability is a critical issue for our clients. We feel that the best way to reduce liability is to adhere to the strictest standards and operate an environmentally safe facility.
